Daily Devotion and Prayer for April 5th

This Daily Devotion covers the first five books of the Bible, Genesis through Deuteronomy also called the Books of Moses or the Pentateuch, in a period of one year in a Monday through Friday format, the Psalms and order of devotion follow those presented in The Treasury of Daily Prayer from Concordia Publishing House.

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

     Hear my prayer, O Lord; give ear to my pleas for mercy!

     In your faithfulness answer me, in your righteousness!

     Evening and morning and at noon I utter my complaint and moan,

     and he hears my voice.

     Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you;

     He will never permit the righteous to be moved.

Psalm 89:20-27

20  I have found David, my servant;

with my holy oil I have anointed him,

21  so that my hand shall be established with him;

my arm also shall strengthen him.

22  The enemy shall not outwit him;

the wicked shall not humble him.

23  I will crush his foes before him

and strike down those who hate him.

24  My faithfulness and my steadfast love

shall be with him, and in my name shall his horn be exalted.

25  I will set his hand on the sea

and his right hand on the rivers.

26  He shall cry to me, ‘You are my Father,

my God, and the Rock of my salvation.’

27  And I will make him the firstborn,

the highest of the kings of the earth.

Reading Num 3:34-51

34 The ?ones counted? according to the number of every male from ?one month? and above were six thousand two hundred. 35 The leader of ?the family? according to the clans of Merari is Zuriel son of Abihail; they will encamp of the side of the tabernacle to the north. 36 The responsibility of the sons of Merari was the supervision of the frames of the tabernacle, its bars, pillars, bases, and all its vessels and all its service, 37 and the pillars around the courtyard, and their bases, pegs, and cords.

38 Those encamped before the tabernacle to the east—before the tent of assembly to the east—were Moses and Aaron and his sons; they will keep the responsibility of the sanctuary ?for the Israelites?; and the stranger who approaches will be put to death. 39 All those counted from the Levites whom Moses and Aaron mustered according to ?the word of Yahweh?, according to their clans, every male from ?one month? and above were twenty-two thousand.

40 And Yahweh said to Moses, “Muster every firstborn male from the ?Israelites? from ?one month? and above and ?count? their names. 41 And you will receive the Levites for me—I am Yahweh—in the place of all the firstborn among the ?Israelites?, and the animals of the Levites in the place of all the firstborn among the animals among the ?Israelites?.” 42 So Moses mustered all the firstborn among the ?Israelites? just as Yahweh commanded him. 43 And all the firstborn males among the number of names from ?one month? and above, the ?ones counted?, were twenty-two thousand two hundred and seventy-three.

44 Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, 45 “Receive the Levites in the place of all the firstborn among the ?Israelites?, and the animals of the Levites in the place of their animals; the Levites will be mine. I am Yahweh. 46 And the ransom of the two hundred and seventy-three of the firstborn of the ?Israelites? who are excessive over the Levites, 47 you will receive five shekels a person, in the sanctuary shekel; you will collect twenty gerahs per shekel. 48 You will give the money to Aaron, and to his sons the ransom of the ones who are excessive among them.” 49 And Moses received the money of the redemption from the ones who were excessive from those redeemed of the Levites. 50 From the firstborn of the ?Israelites? he took the money, one thousand three hundred and sixty-five shekels, in the sanctuary shekel. 51 And Moses gave the money of the ransom to Aaron and to his sons according to the ?word? of Yahweh just as Yahweh commanded Moses.

Lord’s Prayer

Daily Prayer

     Merciful and everlasting God, You did not spare Your only Son but delivered Him up for us all to bear our sins on the cross.  Grant that our hearts may be so fixed with steadfast faith in Him that we fear not the power of sin, death, and the devil; through the same Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

Concluding Prayer

Heavenly Father, send Your Holy Spirit into our hearts to direct and rule us according to Your will, to comfort us in all our afflictions, to defend us from all error, and to lead us into all truth; through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
