Daily Devotion and Prayer for February 1st

This Daily Devotion covers the first five books of the Bible, Genesis through Deuteronomy also called the Books of Moses or the Pentateuch, in a period of one year in a Monday through Friday format, the Psalms and order of devotion follow those presented in The Treasury of Daily Prayer from Concordia Publishing House.

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

     Hear my prayer, O Lord; give ear to my pleas for mercy!

     In your faithfulness answer me, in your righteousness!

     Evening and morning and at noon I utter my complaint and moan,

     and he hears my voice.

     Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you;

     He will never permit the righteous to be moved.

Psalm 28

1  Of David. To you, O LORD, I call; my rock,

be not deaf to me, lest, if you be silent to me,

I become like those who go down to the pit.

2  Hear the voice of my pleas for mercy,

when I cry to you for help,

when I lift up my hands toward your most holy sanctuary.

3  Do not drag me off with the wicked,

with the workers of evil, who speak peace with their neighbors

while evil is in their hearts.

4  Give to them according to their work

and according to the evil of their deeds;

give to them according to the work of their hands;

render them their due reward.

5  Because they do not regard the works of the LORD

or the work of his hands,

he will tear them down and build them up no more.

6  Blessed be the LORD!

For he has heard the voice of my pleas for mercy.

7  The LORD is my strength and my shield;

in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults,

and with my song I give thanks to him.

8  The LORD is the strength of his people;

he is the saving refuge of his anointed.

9  Oh, save your people and bless your heritage!

Be their shepherd and carry them forever.

Reading Ex 40:17-38

17 ?In? the first month of the second year, on the first of the month, the tabernacle was set up. 18 And Moses raised the tabernacle, and he placed its bases, and he set up its frames, and he placed its bars, and he raised its pillars. 19 And he spread the tent over the tabernacle; he placed the covering of the tent over it, above it, as Yahweh had commanded Moses. 20 And he took and he put the testimony into the ark, and he placed the poles on the ark, and he put the atonement cover on the ark, above it. 21 And he brought the ark into the tabernacle, and he set up the curtain of the screening, and he shielded the ark of the testimony, as Yahweh had commanded Moses.

22 And he put the table in the tent of assembly on the north side of the tabernacle outside the curtain. 23 And he arranged on it an arrangement of bread before Yahweh, as Yahweh had commanded Moses. 24 And he placed the lampstand in the tent of assembly opposite the table on the south side of the tabernacle. 25 And he set up the lamps before Yahweh, as Yahweh had commanded Moses. 26 And he placed the gold altar in the tent of assembly before the curtain. 27 And he turned fragrant incense into smoke on it, as Yahweh had commanded Moses.

28 And he set up the entrance screen for the tabernacle. 29 And the altar of burnt offering he placed at the entrance of the tabernacle of the tent of assembly, and he offered on it the burnt offering and the grain offering, as Yahweh had commanded Moses. 30 And he placed the basin between the tent of assembly and the altar, and he put there water for washing. 31 And Moses and Aaron and his sons washed their hands and their feet from it. 32 At their going into the tent of assembly and at their approaching the altar, they washed, as Yahweh had commanded Moses.

33 And he set up the courtyard all around the tabernacle and the altar, and he put up the screen of the gate of the courtyard, and Moses completed the work. 34 And the cloud covered the tent of assembly, and the glory of Yahweh filled the tabernacle. 35 And Moses was unable to go into the tent of assembly because the cloud settled on it and the glory of Yahweh filled the tabernacle. 36 And when the cloud was lifted from the tabernacle, the ?Israelites? set out on all their journeys. 37 But if the cloud was not lifted, they did not set out until the day of its being lifted. 38 For the cloud of Yahweh was on the tabernacle by day, and fire was on it by night before the eyes of all the house of Israel throughout all their journeys.

Lord’s Prayer

Daily Prayer

   Lord God, heavenly Father, Your Son fought the good fight of faith and was obedient unto death, even death on the cross, pouring out His blood as a peace offering between You and us.  Keep us faithful unto death so we may receive the crown of righteousness that the Kingdom Judge will reward us with on that day, having waited in hope and love for His appearing; through Your Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord.

Concluding Prayer

Heavenly Father, send Your Holy Spirit into our hearts to direct and rule us according to Your will, to comfort us in all our afflictions, to defend us from all error, and to lead us into all truth; through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
