Reading Deut 28:1-14 “And it will happen that if you indeed listen to the voice of Yahweh your God, ?to diligently observe? all his commandments that I am commanding you ?today?, then Yahweh your God will set you above all the nations of the earth. 2 And all of these blessings shall come upon you, and ?they shall have an effect on you? if you listen to the voice of Yahweh your God…
This Daily Devotion covers the first five books of the Bible, Genesis through Deuteronomy also called the Books of Moses or the Pentateuch, in a period of one year in a Monday through Friday format, the Psalms and order of devotion follow those presented in The Treasury of Daily Prayer from Concordia Publishing House.
In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
Hear my prayer, O Lord; give ear to my pleas for mercy!
In your faithfulness answer me, in your righteousness!
Evening and morning and at noon I utter my complaint and moan,
and he hears my voice.
Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you;
He will never permit the righteous to be moved.
14 Turn again, O God of hosts!
Look down from heaven, and see;
have regard for this vine,
15 the stock that your right hand planted,
and for the son whom you made strong for yourself.
16 They have burned it with fire;
they have cut it down;
may they perish at the rebuke of your face!
17 But let your hand be on the man of your right hand,
the son of man whom you have made strong for yourself!
18 Then we shall not turn back from you;
give us life, and we will call upon your name!
19 Restore us, O LORD God of hosts!
Let your face shine, that we may be saved!
Reading Deut 28:1-14
28 “And it will happen that if you indeed listen to the voice of Yahweh your God, ?to diligently observe? all his commandments that I am commanding you ?today?, then Yahweh your God will set you above all the nations of the earth. 2 And all of these blessings shall come upon you, and ?they shall have an effect on you? if you listen to the voice of Yahweh your God:
3 “You will be blessed in the city, and you will be blessed in the field.
4 “Blessed will be the fruit of your womb and the fruit of your ground and the fruit of your livestock, ?the calf of your cattle and the lambs of your flock?.
5 “Blessed will be your basket and your kneading trough.
6 “Blessed will you be ?when you come in and blessed will you be when you go out?.
7 “Yahweh will cause your enemies ?who rise up against you to be defeated before you?; on one road they shall come out against you, but on seven roads they shall flee ?before you?. 8 Yahweh will command ?concerning you? the blessing to be in your barns and ?in all your endeavors?; and he will bless you in the land that Yahweh your God is giving to you. 9 Yahweh will establish you for ?himself? as a holy people as he has sworn to you, if you keep the commandments of Yahweh your God and you walk in his ways. 10 And all of the peoples of the earth shall see that ?by the name of Yahweh you are called?, and ?they shall fear you?. 11 And ?Yahweh will make you successful and prosperous?, in the fruit of your womb and on the land that Yahweh swore to your ancestors to give to you. 12 Yahweh shall open for you his ?rich? storehouse, even the heavens, to give the rain for your land in its time and to bless all of the work of your hand, and you will lend to many nations; you will not borrow from them. 13 And Yahweh shall make you as head and not the tail, and you shall be only at the top of the nations, and you shall not be at the bottom, if you listen to the commandments of Yahweh your God that I am commanding you ?today? ?and diligently observe them?. 14 And you shall not turn aside from ?any of? the words that I am commanding you ?today? to the right or left by going after other gods to serve them.
Merciful God, Your servant Joseph of Arimathea prepared the body of our Lord and Savior for burial with reverence and godly fear and laid Him in his own tomb. As we follow the example of Joseph, grant to us, Your faithful people, that same grace and courage to love and serve Jesus with sincere devotion all the days of our lives through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
Heavenly Father, send Your Holy Spirit into our hearts to direct and rule us according to Your will, to comfort us in all our afflictions, to defend us from all error, and to lead us into all truth; through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
