Daily Devotion and Prayer for October 10th, 2025

Wisdom—Although Vulnerable—is Superior to Power I have also seen this example of wisdom under the sun, and it seemed great to me. 14 There was a small city with few people in it. A great king came and besieged it, building great siege works against it. 15 Now, a poor wise man was found in it, and he delivered the city by his wisdom. But no one remembered that poor man. 16 So I concluded that wisdom is better than might, yet the wisdom of the poor is despised, and his words are not heard…

+ DAILY PRAYER +

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

     Hear my prayer, O Lord; give ear to my pleas for mercy!

     In your faithfulness answer me, in your righteousness!

     Evening and morning and at noon I utter my complaint and moan,

     and he hears my voice.

     Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you;

     He will never permit the righteous to be moved.

Psalm 106:1-12

Psa 106:1  Praise the LORD! Oh give thanks to the LORD,

for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever!

Psa 106:2  Who can utter the mighty deeds of the LORD,

or declare all his praise?

Psa 106:3  Blessed are they who observe justice,

who do righteousness at all times!

Psa 106:4  Remember me, O LORD, when you show favor

to your people; help me when you save them,

Psa 106:5  that I may look upon the prosperity of your chosen ones,

that I may rejoice in the gladness of your nation,

that I may glory with your inheritance.

Psa 106:6  Both we and our fathers have sinned;

we have committed iniquity; we have done wickedness.

Psa 106:7  Our fathers, when they were in Egypt,

did not consider your wondrous works;

they did not remember the abundance of your steadfast love,

but rebelled by the sea, at the Red Sea.

Psa 106:8  Yet he saved them for his name’s sake,

that he might make known his mighty power.

Psa 106:9  He rebuked the Red Sea, and it became dry,

and he led them through the deep as through a desert.

Psa 106:10  So he saved them from the hand of the foe

and redeemed them from the power of the enemy.

Psa 106:11  And the waters covered their adversaries;

not one of them was left.

Psa 106:12  Then they believed his words;

they sang his praise.

Reading for Friday October 10th       Eccl 9:13-10:7

Wisdom—Although Vulnerable—is Superior to Power

13 I have also seen this example of wisdom under the sun, and it seemed great to me. 14 There was a small city with few people in it. A great king came and besieged it, building great siege works against it. 15 Now, a poor wise man was found in it, and he delivered the city by his wisdom. But no one remembered that poor man. 16 So I concluded that wisdom is better than might, yet the wisdom of the poor is despised, and his words are not heard.

Wisdom—Although Vulnerable—is Superior to Folly

17 The words of the wise are heard in peace

more than the shouting of a ruler is heard among the fools.

18 Wisdom is better than weapons of war,

but one sinner destroys much good.

10      Dead flies cause a bad smell and ruin the ointment of the perfumer.

So also a little folly outweighs wisdom and honor.

2 The heart of the wise inclines to his right,

but the heart of the fool inclines to his left.

3 Even when the fool walks along the road, he lacks sense;

he tells everyone that he is a fool.

4 If the anger of the ruler rises against you,

do not leave your post,

for calmness can undo great offenses.

5 There is an evil I have seen under the sun—

it is an error that proceeds from a ruler!

6 The fool is set in many high places,

but the rich sit in lowly places.

7 I have even seen slaves riding on horses

and princes walking like slaves on the earth!

Lord’s Prayer

    Heavenly Father, send Your Holy Spirit into our hearts to direct and rule us to do Your will, to comfort us in all our afflictions, to defend us from all error, and to lead us into all truth; through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
