Job’s Fourth Speech Then Job answered and said, 2 “Truly indeed you are the people, and wisdom will die with you. 3 ?I also have insight? like you; I am not more inferior than you. And ?who does not know things like these?? 4 I am a laughingstock to my friends…
In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
Hear my prayer, O Lord; give ear to my pleas for mercy!
In your faithfulness answer me, in your righteousness!
Evening and morning and at noon I utter my complaint and moan,
and he hears my voice.
Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you;
He will never permit the righteous to be moved.
Psalm 90:13-17
Psa 90:13 Return, O LORD! How long?
Have pity on your servants!
Psa 90:14 Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love,
that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.
Psa 90:15 Make us glad for as many days as you have afflicted us,
and for as many years as we have seen evil.
Psa 90:16 Let your work be shown to your servants,
and your glorious power to their children.
Psa 90:17 Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us,
and establish the work of our hands upon us;
yes, establish the work of our hands!

Job’s Fourth Speech
12 Then Job answered and said,
2 “Truly indeed you are the people,
and wisdom will die with you.
3 ?I also have insight? like you;
I am not more inferior than you.
And ?who does not know things like these??
4 I am a laughingstock to my friends:
‘He calls on God, and he answers him.’
A righteous, blameless man is a laughingstock.
5 ?Those at ease have contempt? for the thought of ?disaster?,
but it is ready for those unstable of foot.
6 The tents of the destroyers are at peace,
and there is security for those who provoke God,
for those whom God brings into his hand.
7 “But ask the animals, and they will teach you,
and the birds of the heaven, and they will tell you;
8 or ask the earth, and it will teach you,
and the fishes of the sea will declare to you.
9 Who among all of these does not know
that Yahweh’s hand has done this?
10 In whose hand is the life of all living things
and ?the breath of every human being??
