FIFTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST – A Thought

based on today’s Epistle reading

(2 Corinthians 8:7-9; 13-15)

Christians in the 1st Century contributed joyfully to a financial offering for the saints in Jerusalem who were suffering from a severe famine.  The Macedonians were especially poor, compared to others who had so much more; but they were rich in giving beyond their means, because they gave themselves first to the Lord and then to the financial needs.  What an encouragement for us to give ourselves first to the Lord and then use all we have — including our money — to help God’s will to be done and His kingdom to come!
