Morning Prayer & Daily Devotion March 29th

+ DAILY PRAYER +

+ MORNING +

This Daily Devotion covers the entire New Testament in a period of two years in a Monday through Friday format, the Psalms and order of devotion follow those presented in The Treasury of Daily Prayer from Concordia Publishing House.

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

In the morning, O Lord, You hear my voice;

in the morning I prepare a sacrifice for You and watch.

My mouth is filled with Your praise,

and with Your glory all the day.

O Lord, open my lips,

and my mouth will declare Your praise.

Psalm 35:1-6, 9-10

Great Is the Lord

35 Of David.

          Contend, O Lord, with those who contend with me;

fight against those who fight against me!

Take hold of shield and buckler

and rise for my help!

          Draw the spear and javelin

against my pursuers!

            Say to my soul,

“I am your salvation!”

Let them be put to shame and dishonor

who seek after my life!

Let them be turned back and disappointed

who devise evil against me!

Let them be like chaff before the wind,

with the angel of the Lord driving them away!

Let their way be dark and slippery,

with the angel of the Lord pursuing them!

Then my soul will rejoice in the Lord,

exulting in his salvation.

10      All my bones shall say,

“O Lord, who is like you,

            delivering the poor

from him who is too strong for him,

the poor and needy from him who robs him?”

Luke 15:1-10

The Parable of the Lost Sheep

15 Now the tax collectors and sinners were all drawing near to hear him. And the Pharisees and the scribes grumbled, saying, “This man receives sinners and eats with them.”

So he told them this parable: “What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he has lost one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the open country, and go after the one that is lost, until he finds it? And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and his neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep that was lost.’ Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance.

The Parable of the Lost Coin

“Or what woman, having ten silver coins, if she loses one coin, does not light a lamp and sweep the house and seek diligently until she finds it? And when she has found it, she calls together her friends and neighbors, saying, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found the coin that I had lost.’ 10 Just so, I tell you, there is joy before the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”

Lord’s Prayer

Daily Prayer

Almighty and everlasting God, You sent Your Son to be our Savior becoming one with us and suffering death on the cross for our sin. Mercifully grant that we may follow the example of His humility and patience and through faith partake in His resurrection. Bless us as we journey through this Holy Week and prepare our hearts to rejoice in His Easter victory over death and the grave, in His most holy Name we pray, amen.

Luther’s Morning prayer

I thank You, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have kept me this night from all harm and danger; and I pray that You would keep me this day also from sin and every evil, that all my doings and life may please You. For into Your hands I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let Your holy angel be with me, that the evil foe may have no power over me. Amen.
