+ MORNING +

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

In the morning, O Lord, You hear my voice;

in the morning I prepare a sacrifice for You and watch.

My mouth is filled with Your praise,

and with Your glory all the day.

O Lord, open my lips,

and my mouth will declare Your praise.

Psalm 52

The Steadfast Love of God Endures

52 A Maskil of David, when Doeg, the Edomite, came and told Saul, “David has come to the house of Ahimelech.”

          Why do you boast of evil, O mighty man?

The steadfast love of God endures all the day.

          Your tongue plots destruction,

like a sharp razor, you worker of deceit.

          You love evil more than good,

and lying more than speaking what is right. Selah

          You love all words that devour,

O deceitful tongue.

          But God will break you down forever;

he will snatch and tear you from your tent;

he will uproot you from the land of the living. Selah

          The righteous shall see and fear,

and shall laugh at him, saying,

          “See the man who would not make

God his refuge,

            but trusted in the abundance of his riches

and sought refuge in his own destruction!”

          But I am like a green olive tree

in the house of God.

            I trust in the steadfast love of God

forever and ever.

          I will thank you forever,

because you have done it.

            I will wait for your name, for it is good,

in the presence of the godly.

Luke 24:22-35

22 Moreover, some women of our company amazed us. They were at the tomb early in the morning, 23 and when they did not find his body, they came back saying that they had even seen a vision of angels, who said that he was alive. 24 Some of those who were with us went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said, but him they did not see.” 25 And he said to them, “O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken! 26 Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things and enter into his glory?” 27 And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.

28 So they drew near to the village to which they were going. He acted as if he were going farther, 29 but they urged him strongly, saying, “Stay with us, for it is toward evening and the day is now far spent.” So he went in to stay with them. 30 When he was at table with them, he took the bread and blessed and broke it and gave it to them. 31 And their eyes were opened, and they recognized him. And he vanished from their sight. 32 They said to each other, “Did not our hearts burn within us while he talked to us on the road, while he opened to us the Scriptures?” 33 And they rose that same hour and returned to Jerusalem. And they found the eleven and those who were with them gathered together, 34 saying, “The Lord has risen indeed, and has appeared to Simon!” 35 Then they told what had happened on the road, and how he was known to them in the breaking of the bread.

Lord’s Prayer

Daily Prayer

O Lord we trust in Your steadfast love forever and ever. We pray that You would rescue us from our hypocrisy that keeps us from seeing that Your Son, Jesus Christ, and His work of salvation is the center of all Scripture. Call us to repent of our self-righteousness so that we might look to Him alone as the source of our life. In His most holy Name we pray, amen.

Luther’s Morning prayer

I thank You, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have kept me this night from all harm and danger; and I pray that You would keep me this day also from sin and every evil, that all my doings and life may please You. For into Your hands I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let Your holy angel be with me, that the evil foe may have no power over me. Amen.
